Homeopathy is both the art and science of healing. It is an art in the sense that no two people are alike. We individualize treatment based on a person's complete inventory of symptoms occurring mentally, emotionally, and physically. We've been doing this since homeopathy's inception well over two hundred years ago. We realize the importance of individualization; that we don't all respond to medicine in the exact same way, and that there are unique and often times subtle differences between us, even amidst different people having the same diagnosis. Homeopathy is also a science in that we follow distinct and reliable principles of healing that can be replicated, regardless of the homeopath. We are scrupulous in our scientific methods in homeopathy, and artful in our delivery.
The scope of homeopathy is focused on restoring wellness and cultivating greater vitality in one's life. We're not focused on removing isolated symptoms from specific locations of the body, as is done with conventional medical treatments. Instead, our aim is to stimulate the inherent and natural ability of the body to heal itself. As a person moves toward his or her optimal level of general health, he or she feels better. Subsequently, specific symptoms improve as the body becomes more vital.
Homeopathy is a complete, and all-encompassing healing system, and should not be confused with other natural therapies such as Chinese medicine, acupuncture, herbs, nutritional supplements (aka neutraceuticals), vitamins, or minerals. Certain homeopaths may have additional training in some or all of the above, but a classical homeopath is following clear scientific principles and using only the minimum dose of a homeopathic remedy required to stimulate the bodies inherent healing ability. Homeopaths also greatly value healthy lifestyles, but unless they are a dietitian they will not be supplying diet plans.
Because homeopathy is aimed at treating people and not their illness, it is useful for anyone, regardless of diagnosis. There are no expensive exams or invasive procedures in homeopathic care. In general, most people will visit a homeopath once every 4-8 weeks to carefully evaluate the action of the homeopathic medicine.
