 In 2017 FDA released a policy document––currently in draft form––that will categorize all homeopathic medicines to be treated as technically illegal. This will allow the FDA to remove homeopathic medicines, one at a time, for any reason or for no reason at all.
A few weeks ago, Americans for Homeopathy Choice launched Homeopathy on the Hill (HOH), a coordinated and organized grass-roots effort for people like you to get some expert training and meet with your Congressional Representatives’ staffer. Since then, some of you have been giving us reasons for why you can’t join Homeopathy on the Hill. Well, we wouldn’t be good advocates if we didn’t take a moment to help you find reasons to advocate! 1. "This takes too much time." All you have to do is show up to two training sessions (or watch the recordings)... One training is in the weeks leading up to the event, and the second training is a “cram session“ the night before the event on April 21st. Then, the next day, all you have to do is spend 15 to 30 minutes talking to your congressional office(s) (with the staffer that handles health issues). Americans for Homeopathy Choice will schedule all your appointments for you! So while they have made it as easy as possible for you to participate, yes, we’re talking a few hours of your time. Gandhi, Thomas Jefferson, and Moses all had similar trepidations, but things turned out well for them! In all seriousness, Americans for Homeopathy Choice has trained many-a-advocate before, and all of them come out of our training feeling like they are excellently prepared. Also, you are welcome to recruit a friend from your area to register for HOH so that you don’t have to go into your meeting alone! Having a wing-man or a wing-woman is a wonderful way to feel more comfortable! 3. "Wait. Registration costs $50?" Yes it does, until March 1st, then the price goes up! Americans for Homeopathy Choice (AFHC) had to hire website support, public relations assistance, legal assistance, an expert with lobbying experience who trains groups like ours, someone to schedule all your appointments, and more. But you’re going to get a lot out of this too! In addition to becoming more experienced at handling political issues that might matter to you, as an attendee, you will be gaining access to special advocacy software including Basecamp and Congress Plus. Basecamp is a project management software that allows you to communicate effectively with the rest of the HOH team, and Congress Plus allows Homeopathy Choice to schedule all your Congressional appointment(s) while also managing follow ups and notes from your meetings. Also, you will have access to AFHC’s upgraded Zoom conferencing software so that you can hold appointments with your Congressional staffer(s). Keep in mind that some staffers may prefer to meet over the phone rather than online. Finally, you will also attend our closing ceremony where you will hear from homeopathy advocate and actor Lindsay Wagner as well as other AFHC leadership. Thank you for your support in this event! 4. "I am scared." The moms at Americans for Homeopathy Choice were also scared when they started their advocacy work! And they were pretty nervous before each of their FDA meetings (there’s been about 6). But like them, you will soon see that you can still do things when you’re scared and make a difference! Homeopathy Choice likes to see things a little bit differently! We understand that there is a greater force out there that wants homeopathy to flourish. We believe that miracles can happen no matter who is in charge. Our job is simply to step forward so that miracles can work through us, regardless of politics! But what is the point of a miracle and an open door if there is nobody there to walk through it? Join HOH now! 6. "I can't afford to close down my homeopathy practice for a day!" Well you don’t have to! At first, Homeopathy Choice does need you to leave April 22nd open, but then about 1-2 weeks (maybe 3) before the date, we will give you a confirmed appointment time with your congressional staffer. Once that appointment is confirmed, you can fill your day up with other items and fill schedule around your call with your staffer. But maybe keeping your schedule open in April 22nd for that long won’t work...well, do what another practitioner did. He said, “My schedule fills up usually 3 weeks in advance, so what I’ll do is move all my April 22nd appointents to the following Saturday. That way, I can keep my Thursday open while still earning my necessary income later that week. Actually, so many clients were excited by my Saturday offering, that I may offer Saturday appointments more often in the future!” When there’s a will, there’s a way! 7. "OK! You’re wearing me down in a good way. Gulp. I may register! What more do you have to say?” Well, we believe in you!
