To Teach is to Learn Twice
I’ve recently been asked to join the teaching faculty for a burgeoning professional training homeopathy school called Prometheus Homeopathic Institute (PHI). This is an exciting development in my career and quite an honor to be a part of ushering in new generations of homeopathic practitioners. We’re still a fairly small industry in comparison to other alternative or conventional medical paradigms, so our work is cut out for us! Even so, this answers a further calling of mine in this field which is to educate. So much of what we do as practitioners is discuss the basic principles of homeopathic healing in as simple of terms as we can. It’s not uncommon for us to hold community meetings or talks just to inform others about the promise of homeopathy for individuals and entire families. All of that is intended for the lay public, or it happens daily in private practice with my patients throughout the course of their own healing. Another aspect of teaching is reacquainting with the material in ways that are now a part of my regular vernacular, but in a deeper way. Homeopathy is one of those fields where a skilled practitioner is never done. This is as much an art as it is a science. We can always go deeper in terms of our understanding of homeopathic remedies, or homeopathic philosophy for healing, etc. So, teaching it is like learning it twice, but in a more dynamic and all-encompassing way. I’m excited for that part of the journey ahead. This is a new and fun change for me to be interacting with and teaching homeopathic students. I’m excited and thought to share the good news with you. If you are or have considered a career in homeopathy, please visit https://prometheushomeopathicinstitute.com to learn more about how to enroll at PHI. And perhaps I’ll see you there! Top Remedies for the Summer I hope you’re enjoying your summer so far! As great as they are, here in central Texas summer brings much heat, sunburn, bug bites, and the like. The healing effects from a specific homeopathic medicine is quite multi-faceted, but when it comes to the ailments felt during this season, here are a few of my favorites:
This list is by no means exhaustive, but they are a few of my favorite ones while having some summer fun. I hope they can help you too! Finally, thank you for incorporating homeopathic medicine into your life and the pursuit of optimal well-being for you and/or your family! This is quite the thing to be a part of and I’m glad I’m on that journey with you. Cheers to a great rest of the summer! Sincerely, Noel

Greetings!
I will be out of the office June 4-13 for a summer holiday with my family. Should you need assistance while I'm away, please contact Su at 612-889-2683 or by email ([email protected]). Please note rates will apply. In the meantime, you can book an appointment before or after this timeframe here. Happy summer and sending you my best! -Noel Spring is in the air!
In my opinion, this is the best time of year. The Texas wildflowers are in bloom, coating the landscape with a vast array of colors and natural beauty. It’s like the earth is revitalizing itself with new life. With that, spring can bring with it times of hope and transition. An exciting spectrum of possibilities await. What is it you are blooming for? What stirs in you that seeks to spring itself forth? Will it be a new, healthier you? Will it involve a deepening and/or repair of your relationships? Developments in career? How about your spiritual life? Where are you hung up? Where do the weeds crowd out the stalks of beauty seeking to burst out? Homeopathy can be a consistent support and aid for you in all the ways that you seek new life or a new direction. It is a tool to help you not only with symptoms, but also with removing barriers that prevent you from living the fullest life you desire. That is the component of this work I am most inspired by. It’s about entering into a healing relationship that serves your highest purpose, honoring the ways in which it is now, yet carefully pressing ever further into where you want to be. Is that a journey you’d like to take? In the spirit of new life emerging this spring, will you let homeopathy change you? In good health, Noel In 2017 FDA released a policy document––currently in draft form––that will categorize all homeopathic medicines to be treated as technically illegal. This will allow the FDA to remove homeopathic medicines, one at a time, for any reason or for no reason at all.
A few weeks ago, Americans for Homeopathy Choice launched Homeopathy on the Hill (HOH), a coordinated and organized grass-roots effort for people like you to get some expert training and meet with your Congressional Representatives’ staffer. Since then, some of you have been giving us reasons for why you can’t join Homeopathy on the Hill. Well, we wouldn’t be good advocates if we didn’t take a moment to help you find reasons to advocate! 1. "This takes too much time." All you have to do is show up to two training sessions (or watch the recordings)... One training is in the weeks leading up to the event, and the second training is a “cram session“ the night before the event on April 21st. Then, the next day, all you have to do is spend 15 to 30 minutes talking to your congressional office(s) (with the staffer that handles health issues). Americans for Homeopathy Choice will schedule all your appointments for you! So while they have made it as easy as possible for you to participate, yes, we’re talking a few hours of your time. But remember! These few hours will impact generations to come...it’s a small sacrifice today for a brighter tomorrow. Come on guys! Join us!! Register now! Learn more here! https://homeopathychoice.org/homeopathy-on-the-hill-2021/ 2. "I am afraid of speaking in a situation like this!" Gandhi, Thomas Jefferson, and Moses all had similar trepidations, but things turned out well for them! In all seriousness, Americans for Homeopathy Choice has trained many-a-advocate before, and all of them come out of our training feeling like they are excellently prepared. Also, you are welcome to recruit a friend from your area to register for HOH so that you don’t have to go into your meeting alone! Having a wing-man or a wing-woman is a wonderful way to feel more comfortable! 3. "Wait. Registration costs $50?" Yes it does, until March 1st, then the price goes up! Americans for Homeopathy Choice (AFHC) had to hire website support, public relations assistance, legal assistance, an expert with lobbying experience who trains groups like ours, someone to schedule all your appointments, and more. But you’re going to get a lot out of this too! In addition to becoming more experienced at handling political issues that might matter to you, as an attendee, you will be gaining access to special advocacy software including Basecamp and Congress Plus. Basecamp is a project management software that allows you to communicate effectively with the rest of the HOH team, and Congress Plus allows Homeopathy Choice to schedule all your Congressional appointment(s) while also managing follow ups and notes from your meetings. Also, you will have access to AFHC’s upgraded Zoom conferencing software so that you can hold appointments with your Congressional staffer(s). Keep in mind that some staffers may prefer to meet over the phone rather than online. Finally, you will also attend our closing ceremony where you will hear from homeopathy advocate and actor Lindsay Wagner as well as other AFHC leadership. Thank you for your support in this event! 4. "I am scared." The moms at Americans for Homeopathy Choice were also scared when they started their advocacy work! And they were pretty nervous before each of their FDA meetings (there’s been about 6). But like them, you will soon see that you can still do things when you’re scared and make a difference! A Homeopathy on the Hill participant—someone who found her power and is joining the fight—said it best: “This is so out of my comfort zone but I really want to help save homeopathy. I will commit to April 22nd. Looking forward to helping out a great cause.” —Jennifer M, New Jersey And another said: “I will just do it scared!” —Ruth R, Virginia Register now! Learn more here! https://homeopathychoice.org/homeopathy-on-the-hill-2021/ 5. "My congressional representative is a stinker; I don't like him or her...they will never help Homeopathy." Homeopathy Choice likes to see things a little bit differently! We understand that there is a greater force out there that wants homeopathy to flourish. We believe that miracles can happen no matter who is in charge. Our job is simply to step forward so that miracles can work through us, regardless of politics! But what is the point of a miracle and an open door if there is nobody there to walk through it? Join HOH now! 6. "I can't afford to close down my homeopathy practice for a day!" Well you don’t have to! At first, Homeopathy Choice does need you to leave April 22nd open, but then about 1-2 weeks (maybe 3) before the date, we will give you a confirmed appointment time with your congressional staffer. Once that appointment is confirmed, you can fill your day up with other items and fill schedule around your call with your staffer. But maybe keeping your schedule open in April 22nd for that long won’t work...well, do what another practitioner did. He said, “My schedule fills up usually 3 weeks in advance, so what I’ll do is move all my April 22nd appointents to the following Saturday. That way, I can keep my Thursday open while still earning my necessary income later that week. Actually, so many clients were excited by my Saturday offering, that I may offer Saturday appointments more often in the future!” When there’s a will, there’s a way! 7. "OK! You’re wearing me down in a good way. Gulp. I may register! What more do you have to say?” Well, we believe in you! It may take a little bit of sacrifice now, but we believe that you will step up and make a difference for generations to come. Register now! Learn more here! https://homeopathychoice.org/homeopathy-on-the-hill-2021/ Important Details about HOH 2021 When is the event? April 21 & 22, 2021 Is the event ALL day those days? NO! Learn more here! https://homeopathychoice.org/homeopathy-on-the-hill-2021/ If you’re suffering from allergies right now, know that you’re not alone! We’ve already seen some pretty high levels of cedar pollen this time of year. The “Cedar Season” usually lasts from mid- to late-December through about mid-February, but it can continue even later than that. I wanted to provide insights into some homeopathic medicines, or remedies, that may actually help you survive the allergy onslaught often felt this time of the year.
Before I mention that, it’s important to note briefly about homeopathic treatment and how it helps people suffering from allergies. Homeopathy is an all natural treatment that seeks to stimulate your bodies own natural healing intelligence. We use homeopathic medicines that are derived from something in nature; mostly plants and simple minerals. That plant or mineral then undergoes a unique preparation process that dilutes away any toxicity from the original substance. What’s left is the energetic healing principles that are then transferred to inert, organic, sucrose sugar pellets. Those pellets are taken orally, preferably dissolved under the tongue. There are other ways to take homeopathic medicines, but a sub-lingual dose like this is the most common. If you’ve seen over-the-counter versions of homeopathic medicines at local stores, you’ll often see noted indications. Yet, every homeopathic medicine has a vast array of uses and will not be limited to what you read on the product, or even what you research online. It’s always best to consult with a professional to ensure you’re taking the right remedy for you. In my practice I see people all the time for allergies. The best treatment is when you are taking a “constitutional” remedy, which is an individualized homeopathic medicine that is targeted to your unique symptom picture. Not everyone with allergies, or cedar fever, will need the same remedy. So much goes into it. Book an appointment if you’d like help. The following is a list of various homeopathic medicines that may help you get through the season. Each one will have a unique symptom description. You may not have all the noted symptoms, but choose the one that most resembles your personal situation: Allium Cepa: Acrid (burning, caustic) nasal discharge, which may even burn the nose or upper lip. Profuse watery discharge from the nose, like a "dripping faucet." Usually effects the left nostril more. You feel better in the open air, rather than indoors. Arsenicum album: Also acrid discharge. It drips from the nose, which may also be totally obstructed. Usually the right nostril is more affected. Euphrasia: Eyes feel inflamed, extremely irritated, with burning and itching. Bland nasal discharge, but with profuse acrid lacrimation (secretion of tears from eyes). Watery eyes that burn. Nux Vomica: Terrible sneezing, especially in the morning on rising from bed. Stuffed, irritated nose that becomes fluent in a warm room - this generally relieves the stuffed nose. Nasal discharge may be very fluent in the morning and daytime, but horribly dry with raw obstruction at night and in bed. Pulsatilla: Awful itching and lacrimation of eyes which feel better from applying a cold application. Everything is worse by being over-heated, such as by the sun, eating hot foods, or the heat of the bed, etc. Much worse in the open air. Much better in air conditioning (no exposure to pollens). Sabadilla: Tremendous paroxysms (spasmodic) of sneezing; debilitating sneezing. The above list is not exhaustive, but will help you get through some pretty rough situations. They are common remedies that can help for common displays of “cedar fever.” Your unique situation may require professional help to ensure an individualized approach is taken that best suits your needs. Contact me for more information. In good health, Noel It’s that time of year again. If you haven’t already, you will soon hear about the flu and what you should do. It is entirely up to you what you choose for you or your family’s health. I’m a strong proponent in making informed decisions and I hope to arm you with additional information today. As the saying goes: “Knowledge is power” so I hope this helps to empower you.
One service I provide is called homeoprophylaxis, or HP. I am certified HP supervisor from the organization Free and Healthy Children International (FHCi). Through FHCi I’ve been helping families with HP since 2012. In light of the emphasis being placed on infectious, contagious disease this year, I thought it’d be important you knew a bit more about it. HP seeks to educate the immune system in a call-response methodology. A specific kind of homeopathic remedy, called a nosode, is used to initiate a self-regulating healing response of the body. The response is innate and exists for every living being. In HP that healing response is to a specific pathogen that occurs in the natural environment, such as influenza. There have been numerous studies conducted on HP. Overall, HP has about a 90% efficacy rate. This is outstanding, but does not make it a panacea. Based on my professional experience over the past 10+ years, HP is a good adjunct to constitutional homeopathic care, but is not a good replacement for it. HP remains a small part of the services I offer in my practice, yet a very important one for families looking for specific help on this one particular issue. In my opinion, HP is best used when it augments the intended outcomes from constitutional homeopathic care, which include boosting overall vitality and strengthening your body's defense mechanisms. All the same, in light of the heightened attention being paid to the flu nowadays, I wanted you to know that HP nosodes are available. I encourage you to contact me if you have any questions about them. Please note that HP nosodes are also available regarding other nefarious issues you’ve likely heard much about. If you’re currently undergoing constitutional homeopathic care in my practice, please discuss with me on whether or not HP is right for you and/or how to proceed in light of your current treatment plan. I offer HP only to established clients so if you’re new to my practice please establish care by scheduling an "Initial Consultation." There, we can discuss HP nosodes relative to your needs and concerns, in addition to your overall constitutional care. If you’d like to enroll exclusively in a comprehensive, multi-year program which provides HP nosodes in response to at least nine different infectious diseases, schedule a "Homeoprophylaxis Program" session instead. Disclaimer: This information is for educational purposes only and is not intended to treat, diagnose, or prevent disease. If you have any questions about your health, contact a licensed medical provider. It can be hard to tell at times. Both conditions have similar symptoms, but there are distinct characteristics. And in a time where having symptoms at all can feel like a cause for concern of something greater, perhaps it’s a good idea to sort this out a bit.
Lately I’ve received a lot of calls for people suffering from allergies. This is not new, especially with living here in central Texas where the “allergy season” seems to be year-round. There is such a convergence of different topographies in this region, which makes it so beautiful, but that beauty also brings with it a vast array of different environmental pollens as well. At present, ragweed is causing major issues for people. But, it’s been presenting in such a way to cause confusion as to what’s really going on. Is it something more than allergies? Is it a cold? Is it a sign of something greater or more severe?! To clear some confusion about what you may be experiencing, here is a brief rundown of symptoms for each. Allergy Symptoms Generally, you can most easily tell you’re experiencing allergy symptoms when they tend to happen around the same time each year. Every geographical region will have it’s own “allergy season” so it’s best to become aware of what that is in your respective area. The trouble nowadays, though, is that people who have historically had seasonal allergies are now taking one or more common suppressive medications on an almost daily basis. So it will be hard to tell if you’re having an exacerbation of those allergies, or if in fact a cold of some kind is developing. Here are some common allergy symptoms:
As you can see this could also seem like a common cold. Colds are caused by viruses in the environment, whereas allergies are the overactive immune response to an outside substance, such as an environmental pollen. How many times have you heard the phrase, “It just must be something viral” when no other explanation can be found? Colds Common colds viruses will present with similar symptoms as allergies, but there are a couple differences:
Note that there are overlap with the allergy symptoms, but the main differences are aches and pains, sore throat, and fevers are more common with colds than allergies. Both can have runny noses or post-nasal drip, which can also cause throat issues, like pain and/or irritation. As with all situations for all people, you may have more specific symptoms that aren’t included in either list. That’s because it all depends on your individual susceptibility which is derived from many different factors like your family history or personal health experiences. Fortunately, it matters not what the source is for homeopathy to help you. We’re simply focused on the presenting signs and symptoms, as told by you and observed by your homeopath. Sure, knowing if it’s an allergy “attack” occurring in your life at the present time, or if you’ve “caught” a cold may help your homeopath distinguish between certain remedies that may help you, but it’s certainly not a deal-breaker. And I think that’s one of the great benefits of homeopathic medicine: treatment is individualized to the person, and not to the condition. There are truly innumerable different homeopathic remedies that could assist each person at any given time. The best approach is treating you “constitutionally” with a well-selected homeopathic remedy that addresses your unique health profile. Though, at times, we need to address the individual situation with specific acute homeopathic remedies, too. I hope this helps clear some confusion as to what you may be experiencing at the present time. As always, it’s important to let your homeopath know when you become ill so we can most readily help you before things progress or become worse. In good health, Noel I'm grateful to have continued offering homeopathic services to individuals and families throughout this year. The journey towards better health is one of the key functions of a homeopath. And since homeopathy takes a holistic view of health, I can't help but try to understand this entire situation as a whole. Through continued observation, we have each landed somewhere individually, but as part of a collective. I've heard a lot of diverse perspectives across the spectrum of possibilities on what we each think and how we each are responding to present-day circumstances.
My main focus in every interaction I have with each patient is to distill down where everything meets. We in homeopathy see symptoms as just the sign of something "off" in the entire system; not to be addressed singularly as an isolated incident from a specific location of the body. Rather, there are connections to be made with all of our symptoms. Homeopathy is both a medical art and science. The art in homeopathy involves understanding the nuances of these symptoms and how they relate to the person as a whole, including also our mental and emotional health. The art of homeopathy is one of the reasons I love practicing. One can also see the situation of a virus in the context of the greater societal impact it is having. It's possible to take a giant step back and see the whole situation from a meta-perspective, so to speak, just like I do with individual health. I've seen so many different ways in which our societal health has been impacted. It has left me with the sincere declaration that each of us have control in the status of our health. Knowing that we have control in the status of our health is also an inherently critical part of actually achieving it. We, in homeopathy, are in lock-step with you throughout that process. As you go forth this weekend and celebrate the Labor Day holiday, know that no matter what you've been told, there is always more. More to you, to your potential, to your well-being; how you live this life, the freedom you feel, the creativity you experience. There is always more to YOU. You are in control of your health, and I appreciate you allowing homeopathy into that process. Yours in health, Noel Greetings!
I hope you're enjoying the summer months so far! I will be taking some time off this summer and wanted to send you a quick notice about some known dates I will be out of the office (as of publishing):
I will have a backup in place should you need homeopathic assistance or an immediate need for remedy refills during these times. Her name is Su and she will take good care of you. She can be reached either by email ( [email protected]) or by phone at 612-889-2683. Please note standard "Acute Care Consultation" rates will apply. I will also include a link to this blog in my "Out of Office" automated response email, should you email me while I'm out, and need Su's information. As always, I'm sending you my very best and am excited to be accompanying you on your healing journey. Thank you for choosing homeopathy and my practice for your wellness needs! Sincerely, Noel Our goal is to achieve 100,000 comments submitted to the FDA website telling the agency to change its proposed new rules on homeopathy (which the agency calls “guidance”). Now is the time to keep the pressure on, and the deadline is literally hours away!
You can use the pre-written comment we created for you at the following link. homeopathychoice.org/fdacomment If you have made a comment before, you’re welcome to submit another one. Modify the pre-written comment and write a few words about why homeopathy is important to you. When submitting comments via this form, your concerns will be instantly submitted to the FDA, your legislators, and the White House. It is crucial that we get 100,000 comments on the FDA website before the May 23rd deadline to show the agency that there is widespread support for rules that preserve the full range of homeopathic medicines! Please share far and wide! And thank you for your continued support of ensuring homeopathy remains a viable and accessible health modality for you and your family. Sincerely, Noel |
